There is a common misconception that Minecraft is just a game. However, Minecraft has powerful coding capacities and children can start learning in languages such as block coding and end in complex languages such as Java and Python.
Platform used: Minecraft https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc…
The coding language used is Microsoft MakeCode
Time: about 1 hour
Concepts tackled: design thinking, growth mindset coding, design
Goal: To bring children’s Minecraft skills to the next level, changing the game from a “”block to block”” building to a coding building.
Target audience: Grades 5-8
Takeaway message: Coding with Minecraft will allow kids to do more than just placing blocks. Kids will learn about loops, Minecraft agents, coordinates, and true or false statements.
